Learning Activities
All Classes: Create, send, and receive Christmas Cards - The Drawing, Painting, and Graphics content and skills will be attained if the students take turns using an Interactive Whiteboard or sharing a laptop/desktop/tablet paint program to add artistic elements to a collaboratively drawn card. The Internet Safety/Digital Citizenship content and skills will be attained as the students take turns collaboratively drawing in an electronic space.
All Classes: Add a pin to the Google My Map - In this teacher-led activity, the students will see the teacher add the pin to the map. The teacher will lead students to consider the similarities and differences in the photos that make up the satellite and 3D views of the school.
Option 1: Map Your Connections - Use Google Earth or Google Maps and explore your school and your partner schools. How are the locations and/or the look of the building the same or different? How far apart are the schools? How would you drive or walk there? Reflections can be mailed in and posted on the SHARED page.
Option 2: Have students take photos and make a "Creating and Sending Cards" or "Signs of Advent and Christmas" video (see samples on the RCAN Collaborate Weebly site) to share on the SHARED page.
Option 3: Join the live Zoom conference and sing Christmas carols. Participating schools will receive an email in advance with directions. Date and time to be posted shortly.
Option 4: Skype or Google Hangout between two classes. Make arrangements on your own with a partner teacher to have your students...Meet your partner class and share school traditions OR Have a Mystery Saint call OR Come up with an idea between teachers THEN have your students share class reflections about the experience on the SHARED page.
Option 5: Play Kahoot within your class or with another class via video conference.
Option 6: View the YouTube video of the Christmas Carol after the fact and have your students sing along.
