Introduction: We looked at our school on Google Maps. Do you think we can look at our partner’s school? How do we know what school sent us this card?
Procedures:
- Open the Christmas card exchange group map and view the student’s school. Demonstrate how you can click on a partner’s pin.
- Review the fact that these are older pictures of the partner’s school. They are not live images.
- Ask students to share what looks the same and different about their school and the partner’s school.
- Talk about how long it takes to get to school in the morning. Could we go to the partner’s school? Use Google directions to see how long it would take to drive, walk, bicycle, or take public transportation as the concept makes sense and time allows.
Conclusion: Remind students to ask the teacher to use Google Maps when they are learning about any place.
Considerations: At this grade level, you may only want to look at each school as their card arrives.
